Extra 18: It's time to d-d-d-d-duel (7)

2"Now, thanks to Kagari's effect, I can take a [Sky Striker] magic from my graveyard and add it to my hand, oh, and I choose [Sky Striker Mobilize - Engage!"] - Kurama said with a small smile.     2

[Sky Striker Mobilize - Engage! (Normal Magic)]

If you don't control monsters in your Main Monster Zone: add 1 [Sky Striker] card to your hand from your Deck, except [Sky Striker Mobilize - Engage!], and then, if you have 3 or more Magic in your Graveyard, you can draw 1 card.

* * *

"I have more than 3 Magic cards in my Graveyard, so additional to search, I can draw an additional card" - smiled Kurama as the guys were surprised to see what happened.

"That explains why he was preparing his graveyard" - muttered Bastion as he wrote down everything he saw because this he could use it for his strategies.

"Now I activate the magic card [Sky Striker Mecha Modules - Multirol]" - Kurama continued as he squinted his eyes.

[Sky Striker Mecha Modules - Multirole]

Once per turn: you can select another card you control; send that card to the Graveyard, plus, for the rest of this turn, your opponent cannot activate cards or effects in response to your Magic Card activations (even if this card leaves the Field). (You can only gain the previous effect once per turn). Once per turn, during the End Phase: you can Set Magic [Sky Striker] with different names from your Graveyard, up to the number of Magic [Sky Striker] Cards you activated this turn while this card was face up in your Field, but banish them when they leave the Field.

"You can retrieve from the Graveyard just like that too!" - Bastion exclaimed as his eyes widened in surprise at what he was observing. Not only did this Deck possess enormous versatility by using so many magic cards, but it could also oppress the opponent by returning the cards the user had used to continue blocking during the next turn, and something told him that Kurama not only possessed acceleration and recovery magics, but also other types of magics that were much more dangerous.

"It's clear that this Deck is powerful, although it has a clear weakness" - Alexis said while frowning - "It's hugely dependent on its magic cards and its graveyard, so strategies like [Gravekeepers], or cards that restrict the use of magics can make it a simple opponent to defeat."

"And you think Kurama doesn't know that?" - Chazz asked as he frowned because if he was honest, he had no way of actually defending against that deck, and currently there weren't many cards that could block the use of magics, and if there were, they were specific to certain archetypes or were easily destroyed.

"Anyway, I just wanted to show you that there are other ways to make combos besides using monster effects" - Kurama said while shaking his head - "You can also use magics to block your opponent and make your chances easier by getting more resources from your deck, after all, the more cards you have in your hand, the higher the probability of adapt your strategy to your opponent's, although I also have to tell you that it's not a good idea to leave such a vulnerable field..."

"Vulnerable?" - Jaden said with surprise because he had a monster in defense position and a trap card face down.

"Yes, watch" - said Kurama as he activated a new magic card.

* * *

[Sky Striker Maneuver - Afterburnerts]

If you don't control monsters in your Main Monster Zone: select 1 face-up monster on the Field; destroy it, and then, if you have 3 or more Magic in your Graveyard, you can destroy 1 Magic/Trap on the Field.

* * *

"Wait, that means I won't have anything on my side of the field!" - Jaden said in surprise as he watched his opponent's monster body glow with powerful red flames before flying into his monster and card face down.

"I'm not done yet..." - Kurama said as he activated a second magic card, though this time it was a team card.

* * *

[Sky Striker Mecha Armament - Hercules Base]

Activate this card only if you do not control monsters in your Main Monster Zone. The equipped monster cannot attack directly. It can perform a second attack on monsters during each Battle Phase. If the equipped monster destroys a monster with its attack while you have 3 or more Magic in your Graveyard: draw 1 card. If this card is sent from the Field to the Graveyard by a card effect: you can select up to 3 [Sky Striker] cards in your Graveyard, except [Sky Striker Mecha Armament - Hercules Base]; shuffle them to the Deck.

* * *

"It's not going to be on the field for long though because with [Multirol]'s ability I'm going to destroy it" - Kurama continued as his equipment magic went to the graveyard.

Jaden fell silent when he saw this.

"And remember that my Kagari gains 100 hit points for every magic in my graveyard, and I currently have 7 cards" - Kurama said calmly - "Although this is not enough... I still can't damage all your life points, so let's finish with something basic... [Limit Removal]!"

"Oh, no!" - Jaden exclaimed as he saw how his opponent already had everything to end the duel.

* * *

[Limit Removal].

Until the end of this turn, double the ATK of all Machine monsters you currently control. During the Final Phase of this turn, destroy those monsters.

* * *

[Sky Striker Ace - Kagari]

Atk: 1500 → 2200 → 4400/ Link-1

* * *

"Let's end this, Kagari!" - Kurama exclaimed as his monster's mechanical wings ignited with an embracing fire - "Attack directly!"

Kagari shot out at Jaden, attacking him with her flaming sword.

"Ugh..." - Jaden let out a groan as he watched his life points vanish.

[Jaden LP: 4000 → -400]

[Duel Terminated]

"Oh... I didn't last at all..." - Jaden said as he sighed regretfully.

"Well, you were up against a deck you knew nothing about and with a new mechanic" - said Kurama as he shook his head - "Your first play was pretty solid, a monster with high defense and possibly a card to stop me from performing my battle phase."

"Huh? How did you know?" - Jaden asked as he showed his card [Deny Attack].

* * *

[Negate Attack (Normal Trap)].

When an opponent's monster declares an attack: select the attacking monster; negate the attack, then end the Battle Phase.

* * *

"It's basic stuff, it's not the first time they've tried to do it" - Kurama replied honestly - "Anyway, I hope you learned something during our duel."

"Yeah, you're great!" - Jaden exclaimed as he gave him a thumbs up.

Kurama gave him a blank look because it wasn't the response he was expecting, though he quickly shook his head. It looked as if Jaden was like his son Naruto, he would only learn by actions and not words - "Anyway, what was it that you managed to deduce from our little duel?"

"That that weakling Slifer was just lucky to have a good hand when he defeated Crowler" - Chazz said with a smile full of disdain.

"Do you want to try it yourself and let's see how long you last?" - Kurama asked while raising an eyebrow.

"No, thanks" - Chazz replied almost immediately, only to hear how the other students laughed at him, though he didn't bother because it was better to be honest for once in his life. Kurama was a monster and held the world record for humiliating his opponents by going OTK in the vast majority of his duels. Only a few had managed to last longer than that, mostly because they had built their decks to do so, though that made these not as strong.

"You're a lot more sensible than I thought, maybe you can learn something during my class" - Kurama nodded as he took his eyes off Chazz.

Alexis was also surprised to see this. Chazz was known for being extremely proud, but now he was swallowing his pride in front of a much more experienced duelist despite being of a similar age.

"Bastion, tell me, what did you learn?" - Kurama asked as he looked at the smarter first year boy.

"That in order to make a good combo, or at least one that can adapt to your opponent's moves, you first need many factors" - said Bastion as he looked at his new teacher with a deep respect - "Effects of our deck's monsters, our graveyard, card in hand, as well as thinking about what our opponent could use in order to disrupt our moves."

"Perfect" - smiled Kurama as he nodded in the direction of the young Misawa - "As Bastion said, there are many factors before performing a combo, and these can start with one card and end in a different play depending on your opponent's field, or the resources you have in hand or graveyard, remember, a combo is not completely defined, we can change some interactions and reach the same result, or use the same interactions and reach a different result"

"Professor, what is the purpose of making a combo?" - Alexis asked as she raised a hand.

"Oh, that's an interesting question, one that can vary depending on the person" - said Kurama with a small smile - "In my case, a combo is a set of actions that creates a field strong enough to smash my enemies quickly and effectively, other people who have started doing combos, use them to be block or defend against the opponent's moves."
