Extra 18: It's time to d-d-d-d-duel (9)

3"I'm surprised you chose me as your opponent" - Kurama said as he looked at the young man in front of him.
2

The boy had dark greenish blue hair and was wearing a jacket that showed he was part of the [Blue Obelisk] dormitory.

"I don't think I'll get the chance now that you'll be retiring from the academy soon" - the boy said. His name was Zane Trusdale, and he was the older brother of Syrus, as well as the best student in the whole academy.

"I guess I can give you the treat..." - Kurama shook his head when he heard this before sighing regretfully.

It had been a year since he had entered the academy, a year of craziness that could be compared to his life in its original dimension.

Everything had started normally, daily classes and not much to say besides how monotonous everything was, at least until Sheppard called a select group of students and teachers to defend the keys that held the seal to some extremely dangerous cards.

Kurama raised an eyebrow when he heard, although at least now he understood that it was that strange feeling he had had since he arrived to this island, although there was something that honestly had him completely confused, and that was that he still could not believe that all problems had to be solved with a duel, and even the supposed weapons of mass destruction were cards, meaning, this would solve many problems in the Elemental Nations if instead of senseless fights, they would use this much more peaceful and less harmful method.

During the battle between Kurama and the others, against the [Shadow Riders], things got a little heated. He had managed to save Alexis' brother, who had been missing for years, as well as defeated a few dark duelists, though not all of them because he didn't think it was a good idea for him to do all the work, even though this way it would all be much faster.

Back on topic, with her brother's return, Alexis was much more open with how she felt, especially about him, who was responsible for getting the most important person in her life back.

Everything had gone as Sheppard had thought, and although they had lost some keys during the confrontations, they still retained two when the last horseman had been defeated, although what he had not expected, was the betrayal of Banner, who after some trickery, managed to get the last two keys and release the seal that held the [3 sacred beasts] captive, at which point the real person responsible for all this appeared, and if he was honest with himself, Kurama was disappointed.

He had expected someone like Danzo, a power-hungry bastard who tried to control everything in order to accomplish his goal, but what he was given was a cheap attempt by Orochimaru, an older man who only wished to live for all eternity, this was why he decided to leave the job to Jaden, who had learned a few things in his classes.

The battle ended as he had thought, with Jaden coming out victorious, and with the [3 sacred beasts] under the power of Kurama, who decided to use his energy to recover, after all, he could feel how his body was calling for these three cards.

After absorbing most of their strength, Kurama handed them to Sheppard to seal them back up, which wasn't too difficult now that the cards were weakened, finally ending the war between the academy and the riders, and thus ending the only fun of the whole rest of the year.

That left us with the current situation, with Kurama preparing to hand over the control of his class to another teacher, because Yugi, Kaiba and Pegasus needed his help, and seeing that his power was returning, he decided to take advantage of being able to get away from the academy now that he had other things to do.

"I didn't think you'd last much longer as a teacher, though at the same time it was to be expected" - said Midori as she saw how Kurama was modifying his deck - "What strategy are you going to use against Zane?"

"My original deck" - answered Kurama calmly as he continued to check his deck, which seemed to have gained many more cards.

With the recovery of his strength, more abilities were appearing, as well as many more unique cards.

"The girls will be sad with your departure, especially Alexis" - said Midori with a somber face.

"I know, though it's not like I can give them all what they want" - Kurama replied while shaking his head - "And tell me, how will you react?"

"Me? As if nothing happened" - Midori answered with disdain, although Kurama could feel that she was showing a cold attitude to hide what she felt. He had seen how she was discreetly looking at him, as well as many other signs during this whole year working together, and if he was honest, she wasn't very discreet either, even Alexis, who was extremely open with her intentions, was much more discreet than the dorm teacher [Red Slifer].

"It all went so fast" - Midori muttered as she sighed regretfully - "I guess it's true what they say, all good things end quickly."

"I'm sorry I have to leave, though if I was honest, I knew this moment would come sooner rather than later" - Kurama replied as he set his deck down on the desk and looked carefully at the beautiful black-haired woman, though his attention moved to the door - "It's not polite for you to listen in on other people's conversations, Miss Rhodes"

Alexis entered the room red-faced because she had been caught red-handed.

"Do you need anything?" - Kurama asked as he raised an eyebrow.

"Then it's true that you are leaving..." - Alexis sighed as she looked at the boy who had done for her, way more than she could afford.

"Yes, I have another job to do" - Kurama replied as he nodded - "Besides, I have nothing more to teach you guys."

"I still have a lot to learn from you" - Alexis replied while frowning because honestly, she didn't like to act so melodramatic. She wasn't like that, no, she was quite the opposite, someone firm and determined, not a lovesick girl suffering the departure of her first love.

"No, you have nothing more to learn from me, now it only remains to experience everything by yourself" - Kurama answered calmly while shaking his head - "I'm sure you don't need more than your own willpower to get through it, after all, you are a strong and beautiful girl."

"Beautiful?" - Alexis smiled as she raised an eyebrow - "I thought I was just plain because of how little you react to being next to me."

Kurama didn't answer, he just smiled silently as he closed his eyes - "Anyway, I think that's all for now, I advise you to leave because I have a few things to do before I prepare for the duel against Zane"

The two women looked at each other before leaving with a frown.

Kurama smiled again before shaking his head.

"Seriously, that idiot lacks finesse" - Midori said with a scowl - "Does he not understand what we're trying to tell him?"

"Oh, he understands very well" - answered Alexis while shaking her head and giving a glance to the teacher, who seemed much more innocent in this kind of things than her, a student.

"Then why doesn't he say anything?" - Midori asked with a frown.

"I don't know" - replied Alexis as she folded her arms - "Maybe we're ignoring something?"

"Or maybe he's just not interested in us" - snorted Midori, who honestly felt horrible because it was the first time she was interested in a man, and he seemed to pay no attention to her.

"Oh, believe me, he's interested in us, I've seen how he looks at your ass when you walk in front of him" - answered Alexis as she saw how Midori blushed.

"Really?" - Midori asked with surprise - "Wait, why are we so close with each other on this? I mean, I get that we like the same person, but doesn't that mean we shouldn't get along?"

"You have a point, though maybe it's because we understand that it's better for us to work together, instead of fighting each other" - Alexis answered while thinking for a few seconds - "I mean, Kurama sensei is popular, VERY popular, so we have a lot of competition"

"Allies in a precarious situation, makes sense" - nodded Midori as a dark aura surrounded her body.

Alexis shivered slightly because she could feel an instinctive fear towards Midori, though she quickly decided to put it aside because she still had something to do, after all, one of her friends would have their graduation duel.

Midori raised an eyebrow, though she quickly shrugged it off and walked towards her room, though not before glancing in the direction of Kurama's room, who was possibly still modifying his deck to face Zane.

"Maybe I need to be more assertive?" - Midori muttered before sighing regretfully because this love thing was a bit annoying. It was so much easier for guys to try to date her, not the other way around.
