The Legend of the Kyubi

Interlude 5: The Hyuga

Interlude 5: The Hyuga

1Hiashi was walking quietly to the medical wing so that he could check the condition of the two young Hyuga. He had a conflicting look, which was strange on his normally stoic face because he felt that this had gone on for a long time.      1

"I think it's time for Neji to know the truth..." - muttered the leader Hyuga as he continued to walk towards his destination.

Hiashi arrived at his destination after about 5 minutes, slowly knocked on the door and waited for one of the two patients to respond.

"Come in" - Hinata's voice was heard from inside the room.

"Excuse me..." - said Hiashi as he entered the room. He directly focused his gaze on his daughter and her nephew who, to his surprise, was awake - ". . ."

"Do you need anything, Otousan?" - Hinata asked calmly.

"Yes," the leader Hyuga nodded, "I've come to talk over something with Neji... and I think you have a right to know, too, Hinata"

". . ." - the two young Hyugas were completely silent as they looked at the man in front of them.

"Neji... how much do you know about your father's death?" - Hiashi asked as he looked at his nephew.

"How dare you name him after what you did to him!" - Neji shouted angrily. He could feel his Byakugan activating on its own.

". . ." - Hiashi only sighed with regret as he shook his head.

"Why do you have that expression?" - Neji asked as his gaze grew cold.

"It's because I realize now that I should have told you about this long before..." - Hiashi muttered as he looked at his nephew with sorrow. "It's time I told you the truth about how your father died"

"I know how he died..." - Neji said - "You sacrificed him to save your skin..."

"Yes, I did..." - sighed Hiashi in pain as he slowly took something from his pocket and handed it to his nephew - "Read this first and you'll understand what I'm trying to say... after reading it, you can hate me all you want..."

". . ." - Neji was silent as he took the letter that was being delivered to him. He slowly opened it and started reading it, but when he did, his eyes opened like plates - "This is..."

"It's from your father" - Hiashi replied as he shook his head - "He ''handed it over'' to me to give to you when all this was over..."

"Why didn't you do it then?!" - exclaimed Neji angrily but his expression quickly turned conflicted as he continued reading - "Why..."

Neji could feel tears running down his cheeks as he continued to read his father's letter. He knew this letter was true because he recognized his father's handwriting - "Tousan..."

"Hinata-chan... let's go out for a moment..." - Hiashi muttered as he looked at his daughter and helped her into a wheelchair - "Let's go..."

"Ok..." - nodded the princess of the Byakugan as she watched her cousin be destroyed.

* * * * *

"Why..." - Neji muttered as his hands shook. He could not believe what he was reading.

'Son... if you're reading this, it means my time has come...

I'm sorry I can't be by your side to see you grow up, to see you enter the academy, to see you become a Genin, to see you come and tell me about your first mission, to see you bring home your first girlfriend... I'm really... sorry...

Neji's tears were shaking again because he could see those dark spots, the product of his father's tears as he wrote this - "Tousan..."

'Son... I know you hate my brother because you think he betrayed me... but this is all far from the truth...

"!" - Neji was surprised when he read this.

'Now you must be wondering how I know all this... and it's simple. I know my brother well enough to know how guilty he'll feel about what's going to happen. Nii-san was always a soft touch even though he always showed that icy face.

". . ." - young Hyuga quickly calmed down as he continued to read the letter that became more and more incredible.

* * * * *

"Otousan..." - Hinata muttered as she looked at her father.

"I know what you want to know," Hiashi said calmly. "It's the least I can do to try to remedy everything I've done..."

Hinata was silent as she began to listen to her father's story.

* * * [Flashback] * * *

It had been a week since Hinata had been rescued from Kumo's kidnapping attempt but there was no happiness in the faces of the elders of the Hyuga Clan.

"Danzo just informed us that Kumo sent a messenger..." - said one of the elders with a scowl - "According to him, they want the person responsible for killing their ambassador otherwise, a new war will start between the two villages..."

". . ." - those present again became silent as they looked at each other.

"What should we do?" - asked a beautiful woman who looked a lot like Hinata.

"The council is pushing us too hard..."- said another elder - "I am sorry to say this, Hanako-sama, but as things stand, we have no choice but to hand over the man responsible"

- said another elder - "I am sorry to say this, Hanako-sama, but as things stand, we have no choice but to hand over the man responsible.

"But that ambassador was responsible for a kidnapping attempt!" - exclaimed Hanako angrily - "How can this be so one-sided?!"

"I regret to say that this is politics," sighed Hiashi as he sighed regretfully.

". . ." - Hanako was only silent as she looked at her husband.

"You know very well that they do not care about that bastard's death, Nii-san" - said a man very much like Hiashi - "Kumo only wants a Byakugan from the main branch..."

"I know... but we still cannot allow the possibility of a new war." Hiashi shook his head as he looked at his twin brother.

"So you plan to give yourself up and the Byakugan at the same time?!" - Hisashi exclaimed as he stood at once.

"Then what would you have me do?!" - Hiashi exclaimed angrily, "Do you want Konoha to suffer another war because of me?!"

". . ." - Those present remained silent as they saw the two brothers begin to argue.

"Can you stop yelling at each other so you can start thinking about something?!" - Hanako exclaimed angrily as she looked at the two Hyugas - "This is not the time for your games!"

"We are sorry. Hanako-san!" - Hisashi exclaimed as Hiashi lowered his head with a slight blush.

"Let us return to the main subject," said Hanako as she snorted with a scowl - "Now... does anyone have a plan?"

". . ." - The audience was silent again.

"I think I have an idea..." - Hisashi murmured as he won the eyes of all present - "Though I know you won't like it"

"Don't even think about it!" - exclaimed Hiashi as he realized what was going through his brother's mind - "I won't let you do it!"

"It's the only option we have" - said Hisashi seriously - "Or do you plan to hand over your eyes on a silver platter to that power-hungry village?"

". . ." - The current leader of the Hyuga clan only remained silent while he did not know how to respond to him.

"What do you plan to do?" - Hanako asked seriously.

"He... he wants to pretend to be me," Hiashi muttered seriously. "He wants to give himself up to prevent war between our two villages and at the same time prevent Kumogakure no Sato from getting the Byakugan...

"Kago no Tori no Juin (Seal of the Caged Bird)" - said the other elders as they nodded. Hisashi's plan was perfect, they would not only prevent war but also the acquisition of their Byakugan and what would be better would be that Kumo could not say anything about it because the two brothers were the same.

"I've already said I won't let this happen!" - Hiashi exclaimed angrily - "I will not let my brother die because of my actions!"

"You have to understand, Nii-san" - said Hisashi as he walked to his brother and hugged him - "This is the only option we have"

"For the hundredth time! I won't allow it!" - exclaimed the leader Hyuga - "Meeting over!"

"Hai..." - the elders murmured.

* * * * *

Two days had passed since the meeting had taken place and Hiashi was walking to the dining room to have dinner with his family. Things were much worse than before because Kumo's envoy was putting even more pressure on Konoha's council, even the Hokage had to be present.

"I guess we only have a little time left..." - Hiashi muttered as he shook his head.

"I am sorry, Nii-san" Hiashi was surprised when he heard a familiar voice but before he could say anything, he fell unconscious.

When he woke up, he noticed how he was in his room but that didn't matter to him - "HISASHI!"

"Hiashi-kun!" - Hanako exclaimed when she saw her husband wake up.

"Hanako-chan! Where is Hisashi?!" - exclaimed Hiashi when he saw his wife.

"He..." - Hanako murmured with tears in her eyes - "He left with Kumo's men..."

"What?!" - exclaimed the leader Hyuga as his body trembled - "I have to go quickly, I can't let him die because of me!"

"Do you want all his efforts to be in vain?!" - Hanako exclaimed angrily - "Didn't he leave the clan in your hands to protect it?! Who would take control of the clan if you surrendered now?!"

". . ." - Hiashi just kept silent while listening to his wife's words.

"Hiashi-kun... don't let Hisashi's sacrifice be in vain..." - said Hanako as she started to cry - "I know it's hard for you but please... don't go..."

". . ." - Hiashi fell to bed again - "I'm sorry..."

* * * [End Flashback] *

Hinata could only sigh with regret when she heard the end of the story and understood how much her father had suffered over the years. He not only felt the guilt of his brother's death but a few years later, the woman who had helped him during all these years, had also died.
