On the couch, where her mother was sitting, she saw looking at the engagement card. When she sensed her presence, she raised her head and smiled as she said
"Jian is marrying. It is good. Last time, when Grandfather He had talked to me, he had been constantly showing his worries about his marriage."
Lin Qianru chuckled as she looked down at the card in her hands again never noticing how stiff and uncomfortable Mo Roulan looked.
"I will go to my room, Mom."
Mo Roulan said as she tried to act indifferent.
She went towards the couch to pick up her laptop and then turned around to leave. However, before she could take another step, her mother called her out suddenly.
"Ah…Roulan. You will need to attend it."
Mo Roulan's face went blank.
Was it not enough to see that card and read it already thrice that now she had to attend his engagement as well!
She took a deep breath before she turned around and looked at her mother.
"Mom, I might not be able to attend it. I need to attend the office as well. Why don't you attend it with Mo Chen?"
Lin Qianru smiled in confusion as she looked at her daughter and said
"Roulan, did you not read the time on the card when Butler Zhang showed it to you? The engagement is at night…not during the day. You can attend it. I would have attended it but I might not come back from the hotel early tomorrow. There is a party at the hotel so we need to stay for long."
Actually, she had to go to Chi Rong's uncle's mansion tomorrow and hence she would be late like the previous time.
Even if she tried her best, she might reach He Mansion very late to attend the engagement party. The party was starting at seven in the evening and last time, she had reached the apartment at nine.
Lin Qianru looked at Mo Roulan and continued
"Roulan, Butler Zhang personally came to give the cards and he was also saying that Grandfather He has asked all of us to attend it. So at least you and Mo Chen should attend it if I can't. I will apologize to him for my absence later."
Mo Roulan wanted to refuse. She really wanted to but her mother also seemed very reasonable. It won't look good if no one from their family went after whatever He family…especially He Jian had done so much for her and her family.
So she could only nod her head and say 'yes'. Lin Qianru was relieved.
She went to her room to rest for some time and Mo Roulan also went to her room.
She didn't come out until it was time to cook the dinner. However, when she entered the kitchen she found that her mother was already cooking.
Mo Roulan sighed and helped her.
At the dining table, Lin Qianru again talked about the engagement. Mo Roulan was surprised when she told her that she had gone out in the afternoon and had bought her a dress for the engagement party.
"You didn't have to buy any dress. I could have worn the one I have already."
She told her mother with a frown on her forehead. However, Lin Qianru ignored her. She had seen Mo Roulan wearing that dress at every other occasion since Shen Youlin's birthday party. It won't look good if she wore the same dress again.
She looked at Mo Chen as she said
"Chenchen, you will wear the clothes I had bought you a month ago, alright?'
However, Mo Chen never nodded his head, He looked at his mother with confusion-filled eyes and asked
"Where are we going?"
Lin Qianru smiled when she remembered that Mo Chen didn't even know anything yet so she told him.
"Your Brother Jian is marrying."
Mo Chen's eyes went wide and he shouted suddenly
"What? How can he marry?"
The dining room was suddenly silent and Lin Qianru, as well as Mo Roulan, looked at him with confusion.
It was after a whole minute did Mo Chen realize what he had just uttered.
"What are you saying? Why can't he marry?"
It was Lin Qianru who asked this question to her son while Mo Chen saw his sister's suspicious eyes on him.
"I…I…"
Mo Chen closed and opened his mouth but didn't know what he should say.
All he could do was frown deeply. His small forehead was wrinkled like an old bun and he just said
"I am not attending any party. I need to study."
After finishing his words, he stood up from the chair and left the dining room.
"Mo Chen…what is wrong with him these days"
Lin Qianru called him out and shook her head when he didn't come back. Mo Roulan stiffened and assured her.
"Don't worry. He has finished the dinner. I will talk to him later."
Lin Qianru looked at Mo Chen's plate and was relieved to see that it was empty so she nodded her head. After finishing the dinner, she helped her mother in cleaning the table and then finally went to Mo Chen's room.
He was studying.
The door was open.
Mo Roulan knocked on the door. It felt weird to do this when he was her own brother but seeing how serious he looked whenever he was studying these days she couldn't help but do it.
When Mo Chen raised his head, she stepped inside the room.
Mo Roulan saw that he still had a big frown on his forehead.
She smiled, still a little confused at what he said in the dining room.
"What is bothering you? Are the questions difficult?"
Mo Chen looked at his sister silently for a few moments before he shook his head and focused his attention back on the book.
Mo Roulan sighed seeing this. She dragged a chair to sit beside him and said
"What's wrong, Chenchen? Do you want to talk to Jiejie about it?"
Mo Chen didn't move for a few seconds. Suddenly he looked at his sister and asked
"Are you happy with this engagement?"
